Even with flagship phones you’ll typically just get a couple of significant Android updates. Sony could begin supporting some of its phones for a long time, as a source recommends the Sony Xperia 1 II and Sony Xperia 5 II will get three big Android updates, taking them all the way to Android 13.
That’s according to Androidnext.info(a Japanese site covering Android news and leaks). It’s unclear where the site got this details so we ‘d certainly take it with a pinch of salt, but it includes that the Sony Xperia 1, Xperia 5, and Xperia 10 II will simply get another huge upgrade, taking them to Android 11

Good and bad
So if this info is accurate then it’s excellent news for owners of Sony’s latest flagship and for anyone who buys the reported Sony Xperia 5 II if and when it lands, but less helpful for owners of other Sony phones.
Still, it’s an action in the right instructions and one that may be replicated on future Sony handsets, particularly as Samsung has actually made a similar statement for its flagship phones.
Naturally, we do not even understand this information is precise yet, however if it is, we ‘d expect Sony to make a statement quickly. Maybe it will do so at the Xperia 5 II launch, which itself is most likely to happen before completion of the year, and perhaps by the end of September.
