Dead by Daylight is concerning PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this year, and not just as a technicality: designer Behaviour Interactive says the next-gen console versions will not only run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per 2nd, but that it’s aiming to create a “remastered edition of the video game” as well.
The PS5 and Series X ports will not be the only ones to receive a visual update, Habits assures. Every version of the game will get upgraded animations, lighting, visual impacts, modeling, and textures with the intent to “enhance the immersion tenfold, making the environments as practical as a scary, troubling headache,” the company says.
Behaviour Interactive is also guaranteeing that gamers who acquired the game on current-gen will receive a free next-gen upgrade, and it sounds like you might even get to choose which next-gen copy you want. “Present players who own the video game and choose to purchase a next-gen console will experience a smooth shift, getting Dead by Daytime totally free on their brand-new platform of choice, while keeping all development,” reads the press release. A Habits representative would not clarify when we asked.
Cross-progression is among Dead by Daylight’s current selling points, by the way, with the business letting you carry your development throughout Nintendo Change, Google Stadia, and PC (through Steam). It’s not rather clear from the press release, but it seems like that might be coming to PlayStation and Xbox as well.
Naturally, a complimentary next-gen upgrade is nothing new; similar promises were made by Bethesda, Bungie, CD Projekt Red, and Ubisoft But if Dead by Daytime doesn’t connect you to buying within the exact same console manufacturer, that might make its next-gen upgrade something special.
